Betty Tucker is named Director of Development for Myeloma
Institute for Research and Therapy at UAMS
Betty
Allen Tucker, Arkansas’ former First Lady, has been named director
of development for the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy
at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Mrs. Tucker, who
most recently served as president of Broadband Systems, Inc., a
cable television system with business interests around the world,
holds juris doctorate and bachelor’s degrees from the University
of Arkansas at Little Rock.
“We are very
pleased to welcome Betty Tucker to the Myeloma Institute,” said
Dr. Bart Barlogie, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Myeloma Institute
at UAMS. “Betty brings with her an extensive and varied background
that combines the best of corporate management and finance with
philanthropy and the desire to help others. Her experiences as the
First Lady of our state and as a businesswoman will be invaluable
to us at the Myeloma Institute.”
Mrs. Tucker has
been active in fund-raising and volunteerism for numerous
nonprofit organizations across Arkansas and the world. She has
served as a trustee of Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the
Arkansas Arts Center. She is also a volunteer with the Heifer
Project, with a focus on introducing Heifer projects in Hong Kong.
