Title:

UARK 2006-15: A Phase III Randomized Study of Tandem Transplants With or Without Bortezomib (Velcade) and thalidomide  (thalomid) to Evaluate Its Effect on Response Rate and Durabilityof Response in Multiple Myeloma Patients

Purpose:

To find out if adding three drugs, bortezomib, thalidomide, and examethasone (VTD) to the high dose chemotherapy regimen immediately before transplant (DPACE/Melphalan) will result in better myeloma response and longer survival of myeloma subjects compared to treatment with high-dose chemotherapy not containing these drugs. To find out what the side effects will be with both transplant  regimens.

Eligibility:

You are being asked to take part in this study because you have multiple myeloma and you have already received one or more treatment regimens.

Treatment:

The treatment in this study is divided into 4 parts

-Induction chemotherapy and stem cell collection
-Transplant phase – Two transplants 3 to 4 months apart
-Consolidation chemotherapy with DPACE
-Maintenance therapy
