About Arkansas

Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas

It is no accident that Arkansas is called “the Natural State.” Walking paths, mountain trails, waterfalls, caverns, and scenic drives abound. The beautiful lakes, clear streams and fall foliage are breathtaking. We also have many fascinating historical sites and spectacular golf courses.

The name Arkansas is from the Sioux Indian (Quapaw) word “acansa” meaning “downstream place” or south wind. Little Rock, the capital city, is located near the center of the state and on the south bank of the Arkansas River. Arkansas is in the middle of what is commonly referred to as the Sunbelt.

We have several areas parks and entertainment venues. In Arkansas, we have more to offer than most people realize.
